Food Consumption and Feeding Timings of the Koalas

During the one particular day a Koala’s food consumption and feeding lasts in between 1 hour to 3 hours a day. A Koala may start feeding on any time of the day, but usually they prefer the timings of the dusk and dawn. Moreover, for the rest of the timings of the day, Koalas always have to sleep more for about 18 to 20 hours, which is unusually long for the Koalas. Koalas’ core feeding food is Eucalyptus on which it specifically relies for the rest of its life.

Koalas eat within small intervals of 20 minutes, take a time to chew and grind the food and then they specifically go for further eating. Their preferred timing for the consumption starts just before the dusk time until the complete dusk. At this time of the day, usually other animals are calm, and it is a great opportunity for them to eat as much as possible and make their possible penetration across the trees. During the dusk timings, the same scenario helps the Koalas as well.

Apart from the intervals Koalas have to sleep a lot to slow down their metabolism and also maintain their body energy. If they will walk around their metabolism will increase and body energy will be reduced and they will have to eat more. But their food which is Eucalyptus does not offer a quick fix of the food nutritional source for the Koalas. Therefore, Koalas prefer to sleep as long as they possibly can.
