Brown Koalas are the koalas with the brown-colored fur on their bodies. These koalas are very common within Southern Australian regions i.e., the states of Victoria and South Australia. In fact; these koalas are also known as the Victorian Koalas or the South Australian koalas because of their brown-colored fur. In Australia if you move to the Southern regions of koalas you will notice that the koalas' fur is brown and if you will move to the Northern regions, their fur becomes gray and light.
Brown koalas are the Victorian koalas which have the chocolate-brown colored fur. These koalas belong to the Southern Australian regions i.e., Victoria and South Australia.
If we profoundly analyze their brown colored-fur, we can categorize their exact fur coloring as closest to the chocolate-brown color. It is widely believed that the Brown Koalas or the Victorian koalas have one of the thickest of furs amongst all the koalas within the region.
Another big feature of these Brown koalas is their huge size. Brown Koalas are the largest koala species across the Australian continent. These koalas can weigh from 10 to 14 kilograms in weight which also makes them the heaviest koalas and the biggest Arboreal within the region.
The male brown koalas are as big as 2 feet in length and they weigh almost 10 to 14 kilograms in weight. Females are smaller and they weigh around 5 to 8 kilograms at maximum.
Since; the male koalas are almost twice bigger than the female koalas, therefore; you may not expect the male brown koalas to be as big as 10 to 14 kilograms in weight. The lengths of the males are almost 2 feet long and this is also one of the key reasons that the Brown koalas' fur is considered as the longest amongst all the koalas.
The Brown koalas are blessed with one of the best habitat amongst all the koalas across the continent of Australia. The availability of the fresh Eucalyptus leaves are always in abundance within the Victorian region and this is the key reason that the Brown koalas have thrived within the region. Today; the Victoria's Brown koalas are the largest group of koalas across Australia.
The Victorian region promises continuous supply of fresh Eucalyptus leaves for the Brown koalas. This is one of the key reasons for these koalas to thrive throughout the region.
There are as many as 28,000 koalas in Victoria and almost all of them are the Brown koalas. The abundance of food availability might have also allowed these koalas to grow bigger than their other cousins in the Northern region.
The thickest fur of the Brown koalas have also helped them to adapt against the cold climates of the Victorian region. Their furs have extra coat and because of this reason they are also regarded as the fluffiest ones of all the koalas as well. Other koalas especially the Gray koalas of Queensland have one of the thinnest of the furs because of the hot weather conditions in that region.
The Brown koalas have one of the thickest and shaggiest fur of all the koalas. This thick fur helps them against the cold climates of the Victorian region.
However; recently it has been observed that the Victorian koalas' population growth has stunted because of urbanization within the region. In some of the Victorian areas; the Brown koalas are over-populated and these adorable animals are dying because of starvation.
Let's have a look at the areas within the State of Victoria that have maximum numbers of Brown koalas. The biggest and the most dominant area of the Brown koalas within Victoria is the Corangamite region. There are as many as 6000 koalas within Corangamite. The overall area has one of the richest soils and its lush green habitat (abundance of Eucalyptuses) are perfect for the Brown koalas.
In South Australia, the biggest Brown Koala location is Mayo which has 12,000 koalas. In Victoria, the biggest Brown koala locations include the Corangamite and the Indi having 6000 and 5000 koalas respectively.
Indi is another dominant region of the Brown koalas which has as many as 5000 koalas. However; if we move to the South Australian territory; we may find another big Brown koalas' area known as the Mayo. This area has as many as 12,000 Brown koalas and is the biggest koala region across the Australian continent within any state.
The color variations within koalas shows the adaptability of the koalas throughout the regions. Despite the fact that the koalas have one of the smallest of the brains, the koalas are flexible enough to adapt to different climates of the Australian regions. Their physical evolution and diversification i.e., thick vs thin fur, big vs. small size and light vs. dark color of the furs show the adaptability in according to the circumstances.
Koalas have the ability to adapt to various climates. Brown koalas have beautifully adapted to the colder climates of Victoria while the Gray ones have adapted to the hotter climates of Queensland.
Recently; there has been a move to relocate the overpopulated Brown koalas from Victoria to the Queensland region. This is very challenging because these brown koalas will have to adapt to the toughest climates of the Queensland regions.
